What is this? - Saga is an FBI agent, but she is specifically one of the FBI's best profilers and part of her profiling involves utilizing her mind place to 'interrogate' individuals through a mental exercise. ...or it would be, if she didn't have potent paranatural abilities that allow her to do exponentially more than any mundane thought process could ever provide. While she treated this for many years as just a way of extrapolating and processing data, it's actually magic/paranatural powers, an ability that lets her see truths others would prefer she didn't and find hidden knowledge. TLDR: she's actually a seer and this is just the form her divination takes.
And where does this post come in? - Why, in using it of course! She starts with questions or prompts as shown here, and she goes through them to find out information (many times raising more questions in the process). As shown here, her profiling acts as something of an interrogation of the individual though their answers can be obscure, jumbled, or distorted. Which, to me, seems like an opportunity to make this a thread so we can both have fun with this whole thing! TLDR: shape the information she gets to the questions you're interested in her asking and what/how you want her to know!
So how is this going to work? - When or if Saga has an interest in your character, I will post up a 'file' of your character. Then, I'll post 'post it's with questions or prompt topics she wants to find out about regarding that character. That's your cue! Tag in with your characters weird/spooky/crazy/rambling response to start and we'll go for a few tags until the topic is exhausted. All of this will, of course, be fully negotiated with you and up to you as to whether you're even interested in doing any of this. Each 'post it' section will probably be a back and forth of maybe 2-5 tags each before she feels the well is dry and moves on.
Is this blocked by room filters? - Whatever we decide! In one sense, she's more interrogating her own gifts and not technically your character about those answers. In another sense, and in cases where your character's abilities may interact with hers, it could be more of a communication. I'm cool taking cues from you and doing whatever seems fun!
Will my character know this is happening? - Not unless they have gifts that would detect or interact with Saga's. 'Normal' people or people who don't have anything in that direction have 0 clue this is happening or HAS happened and she's not going to tell people. It's her thing.
Anything else I should know? - Nothing I can think of! But feel free to hit me up at yarnzipan @ plurk to chat about it if you have concerns. But you should know that this won't even come up in a thread if we haven't discussed it and you're 100% down for it. This is not something I ever want someone to feel pressured over or that they 'have' to do. It's for fun!
EXAMPLE: Saga: Tell me about the woman you had to call your sister. What was going on there? Jacob: [ A vision of Jacob swims across her vision, dark red as old blood. ] She's not our goddamn sister!// It's not real. I don't have to protect her. // She's got a meat shield. // If he wants a sister, he can replace her again. Saga: And who's 'he'? Jacob: [ The tone shifts to a fond sort of frustration as the three answers overlap in his voice:] Little Brother/The Father/Joseph // The one who has to survive. // My sacrifice must be worth something.
[ details ] This is Saga's Case Board, her bonkers little red string white board thinking area where she assembles pieces of information, evidence, conclusions, questions, etc. to get a cohesive idea of what's going on. She will use these to organize her ideas and piece together her thoughts on a variety of different topics and any mysteries she happens to encounter.
This isn't interactive like the profiling area, but I thought it might be fun to keep track of things here given it's what she does in canon. Please keep in mind that everything here is completely IC: IC thoughts, IC conclusions, IC theories, and all of this is just in her head. The thoughts shown in this section do not necessarily match what's in my head.
If there's something in here you'd prefer she didn't get involved in or didn't pursue, please do let me know on yarnzipan @ plurk. She's a big ol' Eye-aligned 'need to know' sort so she's going to get her nose in all sorts of things.
[ details ] So Saga has some very interesting heritage going on re: time travel and alternate realities, as well as a rather complicated relationship with Narratives. As such, I'm going to be keeping track of her breach lives and breach relationships here. Are these necessarily going to result in anything? I don't know! We've got DLC on the way and Control 2 in the works that will probably tell us more, but I do intend to play that these lives are a little more accessible than they would be to most for her (their memories, their skills, etc.) and there definitely could be more to come. /shakes Sam Lake FIRMLY/
[He's angry, but it's a tired sort of anger.] She's an illusion.// A replacement each time.//I hate having to pretend to care.// He takes care of it and we just go along.
[ She's been reluctant to utilize her talent, given everything with Arthur, but she was 100% certain that Charlie Dowd was going to remain a brick wall. She can respect that, as far as it goes, but with Faroe-
With Arthur's daughter involved, she has to know more. ]
When I came upon you, Edwin, and Faroe in the hallway, you were having a panic attack: what happened?
[ Charlie's face appears, flickering like a candle, full of dread. ]
I threw a stone against machine guns. // He was/wasn't/would have been hurting Arthur's girl. // How do you like it? // We're all insane to pretend this is okay.
[ God knows I know how *that* feels. She'd faced the dark, Scratch, all of it with guns and weapons but they'd ultimately just felt like toys, ways to feel powerful enough to make a difference. In the end, it had had to be the story.
What does it say about her that she's more comfortable with the guns? ]
So when you saw Edwin looking like that, you were afraid he was going to hurt Faroe?
He looks like a child. He's not a child. // She tried to push him away. // Hundreds of grinning masks. // He grew from a trickster to a monster in my hands. // What am I doing?
He's the King over the heavens and the earth, the mountain and the lake! // King of the two suns that sink behind it! // King of bile! King of jaundice! // King of bitter fruit! // Friend father sister sergeant stepfather stranger mother lover liar liar liar liar LIAR!
[ Her heart aches with the pain in those words, in the vehemence. She'd heard Edwin tell her that he doesn't know who he was, only that he was awful and now to hear this-
The King in Yellow tormented him somehow, pretended to be people he knew and used it to hurt... him? Them?]
So he lied by appearing as something other than what he was. Who did he hurt with his lying?
